Hello! I am Uma, a Northern Virginia based photographer covering the DC-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) area. My photography work is focused primarily on elevating Indian rituals and ceremonies to the next level. Whether capturing the intricate and beautiful traditions of a Gruhapravesam or the bubbly feelings of a birthday party, my work conveys the complete story. My creative eye is evident through the compositions that focus on the subject with intention and purpose. The images I deliver are incredibly rich in color and display the raw emotions of these special ceremonies.
I follow the photojournalism approach to my photography when covering the rituals and ceremonies. Instead of me helping guide and direct the day, I stand back and let things happen naturally. Instead of creating picture perfect scenes for every moment, I strive to capture the truth and realism in the actual moment. The result is a photography that is no longer standardized as you would see from every other photographer out there. Rather, each client gets customized pictures that may not be flawless, but are perfect in capturing the actual emotion and atmosphere of the scene.
My vibrant style combined with my strong understanding of the Indian classical dance has allowed me to become the photographer of choice for Rangapravesham and Bharatanatyam Arangetram.
My work is interlaced with colors and elements that bring forth feelings of warmth, peace, joy, strength and power.
